TA EAST NEWS 9th OCTOBER 2009
To TA East Members & Local Friends
We have just under a week to go to our OCTOBER MEET on the Norfolk/Suffolk border .
That is on SATURDAY 17TH OCTOBER. We will meet for Elevenses at the Forge Tearooms at Thornham Walks.
Afterwards we will trundle north eastwards the few miles to BILLINGFORD HORSESHOES for beer and lunch The Horseshoes is by the A143 Diss and Scole to Great Yarmouth main road, close to a landmark tall windmill.`
Thornham Walks tearoom is a cafe the merits of which Adrian Perkin has mentioned to me several times.
Grid ref is TM100715, Postcode approx IP23 8HH, about 6 miles south of Diss, just west of A140.
The Horseshoes is a pub we have used before but I was reminded how welcoming the landlord is when the riders in the final Diss club 10 of the summer adjourned there after the finish and a most enjoyable evening ensued. It was the same when I popped in on the way home from a weekend ride more recently.
The pub would like to know if we are going to descend on them in large numbers, so it would be helpful if those who are pretty sure they will attend would tell me so. But don’t let that stop you coming at the last minute, if the opportunity presents.
Grid Ref is TM 166787, postcode IP21 4HL. The Horseshoes is on the A143 Diss to Harleston road, just over a mile east of Scole.
Now, as I expect you know, “The way to hell is paved with good intentions”
It has been my intention for the past week to compose a splendid TA East News, full of information and pleasurable reading and send it to you all. But as we are less than a week from 17th Oct, I had better email this basic edition now , and hope that I can add to it later.
I can tell you that the following dates are ready for your diary:
Sun 15th Lunchtime meet at Bildeston Kings Head. Bildeston is on the B1115 Stowmarket to Hadleigh road. The Kings Head is in the middle of the village at 132 High Street, Grid Ref TL 992495, Postcode IP7 7ED.
Lifecycles UK is just along the street at no 108, and is open on Sundays.
Sat 5th Lunchtime meet at The Viper, Mill Green, near Ingatestone, Grid ref TL640018, Postcode CM4 0PT. Pretty much in the middle of a wood, about 6 miles south west of Chelmsford
Sat 9th East Lunchtime Meet Tel F Muir 01603 615000 for details
Sun 7th East Lunch at The Manger, Bradfield Combust.
I can also tell you that we have a new Regional Secretary. Roy Prockter came to our rescue at the AGM and agreed to serve.
His contact details are
Address: 1 Oak Close, Thorpe-le-Soken, Clacton on Sea, CO16 0HU
Telephone : 01255 860804. firstname.lastname@example.org
(Incidentally, with the help of his family, I managed to speak to Paul Willshere on one occasion in September)
Geoff Morse therefore retires after serving as our Regional Secretary for something like 15 years.
We owe him a huge debt of gratitude for the calm and unobtrusive way that he has kept the wheels of our regional administration turning smoothly during that time, as well as acting as event secretary and time keeper many times over and also for organising the Regional Lunch.
Which brings me to say that we are very pleased that Geoff has agreed to continue as Lunch Organiser and indeed has been to The Manger and booked us in on our traditional date –the first Sunday in February.
So, please remember: TA EAST REGIONAL LUNCH – SUNDAY 7TH FEBRUARY 2010
Best wishes to you all
