TA EAST NEWS SEPTEMBER 14th 2012
To TA East members and friends
From Ferg Muir
The EAST REGION AGM is THIS SUNDAY, 16th SEPTEMBER 2012 at MORLEY VILLAGE HALL starting around noon – after the East 50 and CC Breckland 50.

Do please attend and help make sure we have a quorum for this meeting. It is, at the least, a lot of trouble for your officials if we do not get the minimum seven East members present.

If any members would like to lunch together afterwards, then we will head for The Gamekeeper in Old Buckenham, as we did last year. Clearly timing will depend on how long it takes to get through the AGM business and wind up the “50” HQ etc.
Morley Village Hall is on Golf Links Road, Morley, Wymondham NR18 9SU- Grid ref: TM074977

The Ex Dick Morris step-through trike – I am pleased to hear that Len Robinson has found a new home for this in Southend, with the help of Dave Biggs.

Regarding the late Ken Usher, I am told that there will not be an inquest – but the driver concerned in the accident has appeared in a magistrates court and (because, I assume, of the seriousness of the charge) the matter has been committed to be heard at Lincoln Crown Court at a date to be fixed.

Looking ahead we have our Autumn 25 on Sunday 7th October, run with the Comet 25 on the modern version of the “32nd Course” at Quendon, with the opportunity to stay at the Comet Hut.
And one week later (13th/14th Oct) there is the
Lincoln Wheelers Trikes and Tandems Weekend. For details see the Activities page of the TA Website:

This includes the Bernard Rosen Memorial ride and tea party. As it happens I have just seen Bernard’s name in “Cycling” in the result of the 1956 Chichester CC Hardriders 25. “4th B Rosen (Bognor CC) 1:19:8”. He was also a member of the winning Bognor CC team.
Bernard was long time editor and printer of the TA Gazette, though I think this ride must have been on a bike – the winner P Batson did 1:14:52. The course of this scenic semi-classic – if it is the same as when I rode it circa 1977- goes up and down what seems like every hilly road in the South Downs in the vicinity of Goodwood. Dare I suggest that Bernard’s fondness for tea-parties – it is no accident that his memorial is a tea-party ride – must have developed after 1956.
If you ride behind me when I am on my winter trike with white(ish) Holdsworth conversion, look at the black- painted nearside rear hub. Bernard, who was an engineering lecturer, made that hub, helped by Martin Purser, pretty much from scratch, after I broke an axle on a Lincoln Wheelers Trike and Tandem Weekend.
The hub is still going strong and so is the weekend.

It was good to see ten members out on our Stowmarket and Debenham meet, with Allan Austin coming from Barham, Emma Kirby and Roger and Callum Akers from Hertford and Peter Lucas riding across from Halesworth, plus those who might be termed “the usual suspects” – Geoff Morse, Andrew Pattle, Roy Prockter, Martin Badham and yours truly. The wind made a 180 degree change in direction while we were in The Angel – so some members had a remarkably easy day and others an unexpectedly tough one.

Best wishes and hope to see you Sunday
