To TA East Members & Friends

This is going to have to be quick and concentrated – but at least It shouldn’t take you long to read.

First – We’ve only got 3 entries for the summer 25!

That doesn’t make a lot of sense – double that number rode in the snow in March.

So entries are being held open until Thursday (ie TOMORROW!) for all of you get your entries(£7) off to

Geoff Morse, White House, Heathway, Gt Waldingfield SUDBURY CO10 OTU 01787 375983

It’s the Bressingham to Thetford course. 7 am start.

I’ve realised that nights are drawing in, options are closing so we had better take our chance of going to

PILL MILL this Friday evening (18th July)

Sorry about the short notice. 7pm onwards. The Butt & Oyster. Near Chelmondiston, 6 miles SE of Ipswich.

Slightly more notice of another evening meet at the opposite end of the Region

Following a CC Breckland club 10, which members are welcome to ride or not as they wish. N Tuddenham is between DEREHAM and NORWICH

GOOD NEWS is that former East Chairman GERRY LEWIS is back on his trike after his triple bypass

Thank-you to all who have sympathised after my crash in the Asse criterium and subsequent stay in a Belgian hospital.

Basically, there is nothing broken, but the soft tissue damage is taking time to mend.

I am still hobbling around, but there is slow progress in the right direction. I rode 34 miles last Sunday.

Pedaling has always been the least of my problems – indeed, faced with only 4 entries in the Horwich Criterium, I rode and went OK in this very short race.

But walking, and getting on and off a machine with a top tube has been difficult and my Brompton folding bike a lifeline.

The story of my race, with pictures, is on the 3WeilWeb(in English) item dated (13 juli )

Talking of pictures, the tricyclist with Dave Duffield in Cycling Weekly recently turns out to be BOB MERRILL

He tells me :

“it was before the CTC Dave Duffield challenge ride last year. Dave Duffield was a great guy to talk to. I had recently completed the Land’s End to John O’Groats on a trike with two other cyclists and he was telling me of his record rides. What a trikie”

Bob used ride with TA London East Region and once came to the Henighan-organised East Lunch at Scole Inn. He says:

“we cycled up to a lunch in Diss(?) from London on a very cold day once back in the 80s. I used to do all my triking with Nick Stead, Andy Dade, Mike Smith and others”

Thanks for the response to my appeal for marshals for the FLISS BEARD 100

Will Sargeant and Charles and Christine Willmetts shared the duty. Geoff Morse was time keeper and Mick Madgett and probably other TA members were also marshalling.

Will’s trike racing days were in the sixties. Since then he has been involved in sailing, climbing and acting as an athletics time keeper. What really struck him was the number of veterans (Over 40s) about 10% of the field in the 60s, he says. In the EDCA 100, alongside the Fliss Beard, in excess of 80% vets this year.

Now – must go to work!

Best wishes

Ferg Muir
