TA EAST NEWS 12TH FEBRUARY 2010
To TA East Members & Friends
From Fergus Muir
It is time to remind you that the East Region are meeting to explore some Fords near the River Chelmer on SATURDAY 20TH FEBRUARY.
This is slightly different to our usual format as the meeting place is not lunch but our coffee stop, which is the Paper Mill Lock Cafe, on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation, on the lane which leads north from Little Baddow. The chairman drew my attention to this waterside cafe which looks an attractive establishment in an interesting setting. The meeting time is 10.30am, and I guess we will be leaving about 11 o’clock.
The address is officially North Hill, Little Baddow the grid ref TL 777090 and the postcode CM3 4BS.
We shall be visiting the ford which Roy Prockter brought photos of to our meet at the Viper last year. This ford is just over a mile west of Little Baddow. There are two more fords which I hope to visit, depending on time and eventualities.
I believe it will be possible to cross them all by footbridges, but carrying a pair of dry socks might be wise, in case you get carried away.
We WILL be having lunch at a pub, probably rather later than usual, but nothing is fixed in this respect. Roy has mentioned the Rodney at Little Baddow, or another possibility is The Hurdlemakers Arms at Woodham Mortimer. If you know either of these pubs – in particular how busy they are likely to be on a Saturday lunchtime – please let me know.
I hope people will meet at the cafe, but failing that, I should be carrying my mobile – 07906 321132.
