TA EAST NEWS 14TH MARCH 2011
To TA East Members & Friends
This is a slightly belated reminder for racing people to enter the
TA EAST MARCH 25 – that’s the one on the Bressingham to Thetford road on
SUNDAY 27th MARCH
It is also a rather better timed announcement that on that day we will lunch after the 25 at
THE CROSS KEYS at REDGRAVE – the same place as last year, when we 19 members and friends enjoyed an excellent lunchtime – and, incidentally, a photo of John Malseed and Dave Cannon and their machines outside the pub was published in the 60,000 circulation Eastern Daily Press, sweeping aside action shots of the racing which they were also offered.
FIRST – The 25
Event sec is Mick Madgett 32 Tottington Lane, Roydon, DISS IP22 5BJ
Entry fee is £8.00. Entries strictly speaking close tomorrow, but I suspect Mick will hold them open for at least a further day
The Event HQ, Bressingham Village Hall, is in the village, just north of the A1066, Grid ref TM 084814.
New this year is an event for CLASSIC TANDEMS & TANDEM TRIKES – that’s in addition to the usual bike fields for medium gear and classic bikes.
Mark Ready and I are riding the tandem event – my 1966 Jack Taylor tandem trike qualifies comfortably – they have to be pre 1980.
We would welcome some competition
Following on from this – I read in the newly published “History of The Tricycle” concerning the Jack Taylor make that
“Very few tandem tricycles were produced. The whereabouts of two are known”
I do not yet know if mine is one of them.
I certainly recommend “The History of the Tricycle” – it is an excellent £12 worth. Details on the TA website – (though I suspect that just at this moment (Monday) the website may be being upgraded).
Moving on to the LUNCH AT REDGRAVE – I have arranged to give the landlady our numbers in advance…..so please let me booking by tea-time on Saturday 26th and preferably earlier.
Redgrave Cross Keys is about 6 miles from Bressingham, on the B1113, grid ref TM 045780, Postcode IP22 1RW

A couple of items of news of members:
Ray Legg – tandem trike stoker for Martin Badham and Peter Hopkins and a regular attender our at social meets – is 65 on Wednesday 16th – Happy Birthday, Ray, I’m sure you will soon be putting in even more miles.
Alan Nye doesn’t let the grass grow under his feet – he has already started his racing season. He rode the Lea Valley 25 on Saturday.
Here he is on this Picasa album:
The Lea Valley event was won – by a seven minute margin – by former Maldon & District member Alex Dowsett, now of Team Sky. I think it’s wonderful to see an Olympic hopeful riding an ordinary local time trial. But he hasn’t yet actually got what our Alan Nye has – an invitation to 2112. No – not as a competitor, but as someone who was connected with the last London Olympics in 1948. Alan wasn’t a competitor then, either, but was involved as a young boxing hopeful.
I will try and find out more about this, but must get this newsletter away, or there won’t b time to write out entry forms for the 25
Best Wishes to you all
