TA EAST NEWS 25th MARCH 2011 To TA East Members & Friends From Ferg Muir REMEMBER BST – THE CLOCKS CHANGE THIS WEEKEND We lose an hour’s sleep It doesn’t usually happen on the weekend of the Early East 25 but this year, it being the last Sunday in March, the clocks change. After the 25 we meet for lunch at REDGRAVE Cross Keys. Bookings are down compared to recent years – I have 8 so far : Pete & Gwyneth Holland, Roy Prockter, Ian Charity, Simon Yates, Adrian Hills, Martin Badham and myself. If you have booked, but are not on this list, apologies and please remind me. Hope some more of you will book tomorrow (Saturday) – email preferably, or phone. The East 25 is based at Bressingham Village Hall. Here is the solo trike field, courtesy of Mick Madgett’s start sheets:

As mentioned in the last TA East News, Roy Prockter will bring badges from his stock if asked in advance –ta@prockter.com Also I have a tricycling cigarette card – F T Bidlake, no 18 in the John Player series of 50. Free to the first to request it.

After Sunday, our next meet is at DEBENHAM on Saturday 16th April. We will have a social lunchtime meet at the Angel, after which some of us will tackle the STOWMARKET 20 Mile time trial. Entrants need to note the Event Sec’s house number is incorrect in the CTT Handbook. Correct number is 68……In full: Chris Leggett, 68 Newton Road, Ipswich IP3 8HQ Entry fee £7.50. There is a freshness about Debenham in the spring which makes this event very attractive. And it is counting event for SPOCO East, the sporting courses competition organised by TA East member Chris Willmets. Incidentally, it was a pleasure to see Chis racing in the CC Breckland 10 at the beginning of March, after a long lay-off following the accident she and Charles suffered on a tandem bike a few years ago. Going slower, but further, our chairman Martin Badham has already pedalled his Trykit round the Shaftesbury CC 200km Audax on 5th March and followed that up with a night ride from London to Southend on Friday 18th. He was the only upright trike among over 100 riders leaving Hyde Park Corner at Midnight and riding via Billericay and a food stop at Stock Village Hall to arrive in Southend in time for breakfast.

After Debenham, we are soon at the : MAYDAY WEEKEND 2011 –organised by Pete and Gwyneth Holland As everybody will know, the Mayday bank holiday weekend in 2011 will be extended by one day because of the Royal Wedding. This means that anybody wanting to come up to Lincolnshire for the weekend will be welcome any time from the Friday onwards. Mostly arrangements will be as usual but the finer details have yet to be settled. Information will be in the next issue of the Gazette, or alternatively we can send you a sheet if you ring us on 01526 322633. We shall be sending out details of camping and the weekend itinerary with the start sheets. 25 mile time trial Saturday April 30th This will be held on the C25/22 – Silk Willoughby nr Sleaford to Donington – same course as last year. As before, the event will include trikes, tandem trikes and tandems. Start will be at 2.00pm. Headquarters will be Silk Willoughby Village Hall, same as last year. The only major change is that this year it is to be run alongside an ‘old school’ bicycle event promoted by Lincoln wheelers. This is a real ‘fun’ event where penalties are incurred for any aero aids or modern innovations. Tricycles may participate in the ‘old school’ theme but this is entirely optional.
