TA EAST NEWS 15TH SEPTEMBER 2011

To TA East Members & Friends

From Ferg Muir

THIS SATURDAY-17th September

TOUR OF BRITAIN STAGE START AT BURY ST EDMUNDS

This year we are going to watch the preparations for the start at Angel Hill in Bury – that’s the square outside the abbey gateway. The actual start is at 10.15am. I will be in and around Angel Hill, in my TA kit, from about an hour before that.

After the race has departed we will have a 10-15 mile ride, ending up at FLEMPTON GREYHOUND, an old-fashioned village pub a few hundred yards north of the A1110, on the road from Flempton to West Stow. Grid ref TL813 699, postcode IP28 6EL.

If you are in doubt about finding us at the start of the ride, I will look for any lost-looking tricyclists outside the Tourist Information Office on Angel Hill, just before we depart.

I think it quite likely that we will have coffee at the coffee bar on the corner of Angel Hill and Abbeygate Street, but this will depend on local conditions and the wishes of those present.

If you are interested in the detailed route of the Tour of Britain stage, this is now available at

The detailed RACE MANUAL can be downloaded from: www.tourofbritain.com/_ns_news/news_archive.asp?news_id=55

Next day SUN 18TH SEPTEMBER we have the EAST 50 and

the EAST REGION AGM , (as mentioned on p6 of the Summer TA Gazette)

We do need a quorum of seven at the meeting and ask your help in achieving this.

The AGM is at MORLEY VILLAGE HALL at approximately 12 noon, following the East 50,

The Grid ref of Morley Village Hall is TM 074 977

It is a large isolated sports hall, rather than a hut in a village.

The full postal address is Morley Village Hall, Golf Links Road, Morley, Wymondham NR18 9SU

Golf Links Road is a turning off the north side of Norwich Road, Besthorpe.

Norwich Road, Besthorpe is the old, now unclassified, A11.

For a map showing the location go to:

www2.royalmail.com/postcode-finder?gear=postcode

Click on “Find an Address” and put NR18 9SU in the box

Amongst the things that we will have to decide is which 100 is to be our first preference to run the 2012 TA East 100in conjunction with.

We can stay with the East District CA 100 on the dual carriageway A11 in July or there is a new event promoted by the North Norfolk Whs on more rural roads, based at Fakenham, in May. This likely to be on the Saturday, one day before the Wolsey RC 25, alongside which we have very amicably run one of our 25s in recent years.

Clearly this needs careful thinking about.

THE EAST 50 has eight entries, the first rider off at 0703. followed by 70 bikes in the CC Breckland 50

There are details on the CTT website at

cyclingtimetrials.org.uk/Default.aspx?&ge390__geka=MoeMaZhZdmGPSYuQ8onYwr5VtT1MpzEe2fhLDMJ2raIcqkycJrweT-tOSegOH8lw0s9nQKiSQ2dSurQiaHxS2w&ge390__gevi=bkosVTEcmXX5ekdECVvBmA&gv391__gvac=2&gv391__gvff0=3576&gv391__gvfl0=0&language=en-GB&tabid=62

(Or go to the CCT website, then Events…… Startsheets……..CC Breckland 50)

I gather there has been a bit of a struggle to find enough helpers for this event and I am currently due to push off 80 riders single-handed, before helping at the finish. Any offer of sharing the work of pushing off would be welcome – Event Sec is Martin Badham 01603 897738, or I am on 01603 615000.

MASTERPIECES OF CLUBRUN REPORTING

Many of us will have tried our hands at writing a report of a clubrun, and will know how difficult it is to get beyond the weather and a list of places and punctures.

Follow the address below to read probably the finest examples I have ever seen – on Stephen Hills’ blog on West Suffolk Wheelers website:

Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the weekend
