To TA East members and friends
From Ferg Muir

Quite a few things to add to yesterday’s TA East E-NEWS so here goes with an unplanned PART TWO:

First – Thanks to Pete and Gwyneth Holland for details of their…
MAYDAY EVENT IN LINCOLNSHIRE Bank Holiday Weekend 4th/5th/6th MAY 2013
Peter Holland writes:
As usual there will be a Trike Time Trial event on Saturday afternoon starting at 2.00pm which will include entries from solo trikes, tandem trikes and ordinary tandems.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Lincoln Wheelers ‘Old Skool’ Event which is a fun event where points are given or deducted according to certain criteria relating to age of the machine, rider and equipment used.
If anybody is mad enough to want to do so, there is no reason why you shouldn’t enter on your ‘Old Skool’ Trike, tandem trike or tandem and get the best of both events.
Entries will cost £8.00 solos, £16 tandems and I am the event Secretary. Entries must be with me by Tuesday 23rd April. Please send them to
Peter Holland, ‘Stepping Stones’, Main Road, Dunston, Lincoln, LN4 2EZ

There will be a full programme of social activities over the weekend with one or two changes to the usual format. If you would like detailed information, the itinerary will be published on the TA Website shortly, or you can If you don’t have the internet just give us a ring on 01526 322633 and we will send a copy of the itinerary out to you in the post.
Offers of marshalling will be welcomed.
We welcome old members, new members, family, friends, riders and supporters so please do come along and enjoy a really good fun sociable weekend.
We have facilities for camping and caravanning in the garden – no need to book – and there are B&B’s,( but you will, of course, have to book them).
The only proviso is that if you want meals provided or to be included in the restaurant meal you do need to let me (Peter Holland) know about a week in advance.

BELATED CONGRATULATIONS TO TA Thames Valley member DICK HOWARD, still riding his trike at the age of 100.
There is a nice piece on the BBC Website at

By some convoluted sequence of events his birthday resulted in me (Ferg) getting a phone call from Three Counties Radio and being interviewed live on this BBC Local Radio Station. First time I have had to do that. The result isn’t brilliant, indeed it might be considered painful ….but until next Wednesday it can be heard on the BBC i-Player at:
To hear our five minute bit, use the slider to go exactly two hours 34 mins (154 mins) into the programme.
My mind is now full of how I could have done it better.

Photos are now on the East Gallery at

Thanks to John Purser for pointing out that Mick Butler has put an account featuring some of the participating machines on the Classic Rendevouz website Think you have to be a member of the C R Google Group to access it

And I have had a nice note of thanks from John Parmenter – he with the fixed-wheel Hawkes – including the comment:
“I must say I have found the TA the most welcoming club I have ever joined.”

The date is Saturday 20th April ……….Coffee at Kersey Mill (IP7 6PD, TM012444) and Lunch at Edwardstone White Horse (Mill Green CO10 5PX, TL951428)

Tomorrow – Spare a thought for MIKE MOODY who is riding the 300 km “The Dean” Audax .

And on SUNDAY – Do wrap up well for the March 25 – The Met Office forecast is suggesting the “Feels like” temperature will be minus eight degrees centigrade, with a 21 mph headwind on the return leg.

Best wishes to you all
