TA EAST E-NEWS AUGUST 5TH 2013
To TA East members and friends
From Ferg Muir
A quick reminder that tomorrow TUESDAY EVENING, 6th Aug some of us will be at
REDGRAVE CROSS KEYS to watch or take part in the Diss CC Wacky Cycles night.
Full details of this and also Saturdays meet in Essex are repeated from the last TA East E-News at the bottom of this one.

I have agreed to stoke the Chairman’s tandem tricycle, something I have not actually previously done. I must just keep reminding myself that it is a long time since he last had a mishap on a cycle (Not for nothing is does he have a Mr Bump icon on the On3wheels forum.)
In fact by tomorrow evening it will be over 72 hours since his last contretemps – on Saturday morning he fell off his bike riding from the HQ of the ECCA 10 to the start, where he was acting as timekeeper’s recorder.
With near 3 hours of continuous duty ahead, he was looking for a gap in the hedge, and inadvertently let his front wheel run out of tarmac . Those two-wheeled things are wretchedly unstable in such circumstances.

I mentioned the
ON3WHEELS forum
…..and I commend this to all tricyclists. It has been particularly useful this past 10 days while the Webmaster (that same Martin Badham) and the deputy Webmaster, Mike Moody, have both been fully occupied with the London-Edinburgh-London 1400km Audax.
Address is on3wheels.myfastforum.org/
And on it you will find first news of TA members rides in LEL and also of Pete Holland’s accident in LEL and his wife Gwyneth’s update on Pete’s recovery – these items under the heading “Trike Audax Rides”.

Anyway – Commiserations to our member Pete, and let’s hope that these bike into trike collisions go in threes, and we have now seen the last of them for a bit.

Sorry to hear from France that former TA EAST CHAIRMAN GERRY LEWIS has had a spell in hospital where he was diagnosed with arrhythmia. He is now back home with Anne, but has been told he has a heart murmur. However I understand he is back on his trike. Thanks to Geoff Morse for this news.

CYCLISTS CAFES
Cycling Weekly magazine has recently published a piece on more of these, mentioning:
www.athlonsport.co.uk/ Navigation Rd Chelmsford

polocini.com/coffee-shop/ Cental Drive, Romiley , nr Manchester

www.siemprebicyclecafe.com/ 162 Dumbarton Rd, Glasgow

www.bikebeans.co.uk/ Rectory Lane Ashstead, Surrey

rockets-rascals.myshopify.com/ The Parade Plymouth

http://www.mud-dock.co.uk/cafe/ (off) The Grove, Bristol BS1

Has anyone any experience of the Chelmsford one?

A Further reminder that we are meeting this SATURDAY (Aug 10th) at STONDON MASSEY
Below I repeat the details of this and tomorrow’s evening meet:
Tuesday 6th August – Evening:
Mick Madgett has invited us to join in with the Diss & District CC Wacky Races evening.
This is based at Redgrave, starting and finishing outside the Cross Keys – and TA members may stray not further than the tables outside the pub, if they so wish. But if you would like to ride the 8 mile time trial you are welcome to do so – start is 6.45pm. People ride roadsters – wonder what members of the Dagworth & District Gentleman’s Cycling Society might arrive on. Or there are tandems and Rann trailers and so on. I once rode my Brompton folder. But any trike would certainly qualify. Pub has good food and drink.

Then a few days later – on SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST we have a run based at Gordon and Gloria’s at Stondon Massey – , Essex Meet 10am at
8 TIPPS CROSS MEAD, HOOK END, CM15 0HS Grid ref TL589000 for coffee & cake, courtesy of Gordon Biggs & Gloria.
Run to Lunch at Stondon Massey Bricklayers Arms CM15 0EQ Grid Ref TL582007.
Note the address (which I got a bit wrong in the TA Gazette).
Stondon Massey is easily accessible from both Chelmsford and Shenfield stations.
