To give an idea of schedule to those wanting to spectate or try the bacon butties….It looks to me as if the trikes will be starting from 0801 and finishing from 0915 onwards – and returning to the Lea Valley CC Ugley Hut – so recently the subject of a 5-page feature in “Cycling Weekly”
As most of you will have seen on the TA Website we have lost JIM STAINES – whose already poor health took a sudden turn for the worst at the end of last week. Jim died – in England, on Friday 12th September. Jim was a big, if quiet, figure in the TA in particular around and in the1990s. As I gather my thoughts for a tribute, please let me know about your memories of Jim.
The following has just come in from Jim’s daughter Mandy:
Dad ‘s funeral will be on Monday 29th September at 3pm He will be cremated at,
West Suffolk Crematorium
Afterwards there will be a Celebration of his life at:
Mildenhall Cricket Club
IP28 7JU Dad’s wish was not to have flowers except from immediate family. If you feel you would like to, he wanted donations to go to RAFBF (The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund) who helped him greatly in later life by funding his mobility scooter.
Donations can be given on the day or by post to:
Mark Skinner Funeral Directors
His wish is that this be a celebration of his life not to mourn his passing. Therefore we would prefer you not to wear black. If you are a cyclist we would love to see you in your club colours.Could you please let me know if you are coming to either the crematorium and or his celebration (for catering). email@example.com
Or ring 07540 687929 (please leave message if no answer).
There is good news of ALAN NYE. I spoke to his friend “Mrs P” yesterday and she tells me Alan is “Absolutely fine” and recently came to see her in the shop where she works.
Congratultions PAUL WILLSHER who celebrated his 70th birthday at a lavish affair in a marquee behind the famous Suffolk “singing pub” the Eel’s Foot at Eastbridge – at the inland end of RSPB Minsmere (of Springwatch fame). There was a full table of TA members to hear the haunting sound of the penny whistle played by musicians from the inn’s Thursday night jam sessions as well as more conventional musical offerings.
PETER & GWYNETH HOLLAND
Peter has released the following on his Facebook page:
“Rumours you may have heard about Gwyneth’s health are probably true. It’s early days, but so far all the signs are pointing in only one direction. She is now is under the care of a brilliant team who are currently controlling her symptoms prior to development of a treatment plan. Following her short stay in hospital, she is actually feeling much better than she has done for a good few weeks. Please don’t hesitate to contact us about this, or anything else, or just for a chat. It’s still business as usual.”
WE SEND OUR BEST WISHES TO YOU BOTH!
DAVE HUFFEY Separately in the past couple of weeks Paul Willsher and myself have each visited
Dave in The Old Rectory, Spring Lane, Lexden. Pleased to say that notwithstanding the occasional excursion off-course, most of the time he is very much the Chuff many of us knew when he was riding 600km Audax.
I am sure that visitors are welcome and good for him. If possible, phone the Manager’s office at 01206 572871 before calling – though I confess I did not.
JENNY NOAD/STAN SPELLING WEEKEND
There is a good set of racing photos to be seen at
As I know the TA Webmaster is very much tied up with organising the CC Breckland 50 this weekend, not to mention meeting other deadlines, I have taken the liberty of attaching the result sheets, kindly made available by organiser Harold Heyworth.
Congratulations to winners Daren Haseldine and Carl Saint
