To TA East members and friends

From Ferg Muir

Our December meet is this coming SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER

Learning the lessons of the downward trend in attendance (only three last December) at our recent December lunchtime meets, this year the official meet is for ELEVENSES ONLY

This will be at Mr ALLARDS, Walnut Tree Farm, Stowupland – that’s just north of Stowmarket.

Postcode IP14 4BD, Grid Ref TM074608 – it’s on a country crossroads just a little to the north of Stowupland village – I suggest we aim to be there 10.30 until 11am at least.

There is lots of room, so no need to book, and a view to admire from the windows.

So there is no official run to lunch…….. though any members who wish can obviously choose to continue together on the day. If you are so inclined, do bring a map, as I’m not sure my left knee will allow me to stray far from a railway station at the moment

Michael Keen, the energetic organiser of our March and October hut weekends writes:

Does anyone have or know of, a 21 or 21.5 inch trike in reasonable nick that I can use as a winter/ touring machine. I’m not looking for a classic,

But something with lots of gears……

Les King draws our attention to this classic cycles weekend which will be on the weekend of 16th-18th June 2017. That’s one week before York Rally, opening the possibility of a week “Up-north” attending both events. Details are at http://eroicabritannia.co.uk/

It’s at a new venue – Friden Grange – about seven miles from its former home at Bakewell.

Incidentally, Les and Gill have a fine modern Longstaff tandem trike…..now they are looking for a pre-1980 machine for the Eroica. Tel 01245 225957 if you know of anything suitable.

Our November meet (Writtle & The Viper) was rather damp but seven members still joined in at some point during the day.

On the same weekend Secretary Brooking and Jane Moore took their tandem trike on Graham Adams’ Tandem Weekend. You can read about their experiences at: 52nd-crest-cc-tandem-weekend.    ______________________________________________________________________________

It was good to hear from VERA STAINES who did many miles on tandem trike with her late husband Jim (I think on the Longstaff that now belongs to Les and Gill)

Vera tells me she is doing plenty of walking but not much cycling …..but goes on to mention

“Four weeks great cycling on traffic free roads and paths”….

….the south of Holland – the hilly part……..several days in Germany finding the places where the used to live when Jim was stationed there.

Then back into Holland again may hills including several from the Amstel Gold Race…..then Belgium….riding along the canals to Antwerp spending two days wandering through the city.

Attached – I hope – is our programme for the forthcoming months

Hope to see you at Allards for Elevenses on Saturday
