To TA East members & friends

From Ferg Muir

As listed in the Winter TA Gazette, we are meeting at Maldon Queen’s Head on Sat 21st April.

I have now settled the elevenses venue …..

So …do join in on our meet on

Coffee ( and cake??) at Paper Mill Lock cafe, on the River Chelmer, a mile north of Little Baddow followed by riding (or driving) to have lunch at the Queen’s Head on the Hythe at Maldon.

Paper Mill Lock Cafe is at Grid Ref TL777090, postcode CM3 4BS

I think our core time there will be between 10.30 and 11am

Maldon Queen’s Head is Grid Ref TL856070, Postcode CM9 5HN I guess we will be there from 12.30pm …..but be aware – tricyclists do not always run to schedule.

Attached – I hope – is the TA East programme for early summer TA Dates 53 for Spring 2018

Regarding the Bidlake day on 30th June – we will need a coffee meeting place near the Bidlake memorial mosaic in Sandy Market Place – any suggestions welcome.

Colnago owner John Freeman from Writtle has run into a balance problem and asks:

“I was wondering whether there were any of your members in my area who would be prepared to have a chat about the pros and cons of riding a trike?”

Please let me know if you are up for a chat….and I will pass on contact details

Looking forward to May, if past years are anything to go by, spring will be blossoming in Lincolnshire for Pete Holland and Andy Newham’s weekend

Starting on Saturday 5th May with the TA East 10 at Silk Willoughby near Sleaford. Course C10/10 £8.00. Note the distance is 10 miles this year. Also bike event for tandems and Classic Bikes (pre 1980)

Race details from Andy Newham andynewham@msn.com

Camping for the weekend available at Peter Holland’s – Stepping Stones, Main Road , Dunston. Be prepared to cater for yourselves – but there is a toilet, a tap and with luck the orchard trees will be full blossom. Tel 01526 322633.

A secret feature of the country round about are the brilliantly clear streams emerging from springs …..and, short of an intervening drought, I think we can safely expect the springs to be at their best this year.

Only two weeks later the TA’s National Championship 100 will be decided in Norfolk on Saturday 19th May

Fliss Beard and TA East 100 Course B100/9 Fakenham, -Hillington- Gayton-Lexham X 3

Start is 11.00am, one hour ahead of bikes and marshalled by the TA – so volunteers needed. Offers and entries (£10.00) to Martin Badham 9 St Pauls Close, Horsford, Norwich, NR10 3HG martin.badham@talktalk.net

The East Region hosted the very first Fliss Beard Memorial 100 on the E7/100 course in the Tendring Peninsular – that’s east of Colchester and before you run out of land at Harwich.

Afterwards there was a splendid gathering at Gt Bromley Cross Inn.

This has been closed and forlorn for a while, so it is good to read that it has been purchased by “The Gt Bromley Cross Pub Community Benefit Society Ltd” , is now open – though for more limited hours and about to incorporate a library with books supplied by the county library service.

Best Wishes to you All
