A popular aspect of Tricycle Association membership is the opportunity to participate in weekends away with people with similar interests.
The current programme of weekends starts on May Day Weekend in Lincolnshire with camping courtesy of Peter and Gwyneth Holland in Dunston, south of Lincoln. Camping is optional as there are several B&Bs in the area. There is a 25mile time trial on Saturday with an ‘Olde Skool’ event alongside for pre1980 specification machines. Owners of ancient tricycles also qualify. Then return to Dunston for the evening meal.
There is generally a sociable event, such as a pace judging ride, on Sunday with meals arranged around it.
On Monday, those riding the Mike Dixie 10 on Humberside, migrate north in search of a short ride on a fast machine. Arrangements back at Dunston are fairly laid back.
At the other end of May, the gathering is at Astley, near Shrewsbury, where the main events are the National Executive Committee meeting on Saturday, the Bruce Kingsford Championship 50 mile TT on Sunday and the Anfield Bicycle Club on the Monday. Often tricyclists ride both events.
August Bank Holiday brings the Mildenhall Rally in Suffolk.
We hope that, with the resurrection of the York Rally that that will become a regular fixture again.
The year’s round of weekends climaxes with the Annual Reunion and Prize-giving, currently held at the Ramada Hotel, Chesford Bridge, Kenilworth. The Annual General Meeting follows next morning after the extra hour spent in bed.
Augmenting these are various Youth Hostel weekends or camping weekends focused on sporting events – details will appear on the calendar.
