James George Garside and his End to End record ride – information sought.

I have had the following communication and I am sharing it with the membership in the hope that someone can help Frank with his research:

Our Museum, the Museumsdorf Cloppenburg in North Western Germany is owning a great bicycle collection of around 200 bikes from 1869 to the
year 2000. Also we currently driving an exhibition from this collection, that runs to mid 1916. To that wonderful collection also belongs a very special tricycle from the late 1920’s, which is said to be involved in a record ride from Land’s End to John o’ Groats. The Rider’s name is James George Garside.
In the book “Cycling: Land’s End to John o’Groats” from 1971 there is no report of a tricycle or James George Garside.
I think this maybe could be of some interest to you, so is for me, I’m beginning a little research about this beautyful tricycle and found your
website of the Tricycle Association.

So I post an image to this email and would be very happy receiving an answer from you. Sorry for my bad english,

very kind regards from northern germany,

Frank Preisner

Please contact the Webmaster with any information, this is JG Garside’s trike:

Having had my memory jogged, I recall George Garside’s letters from New Zealand appearing regularly in the Gazette. George doesn’t appear in the RRA records as having broken the Lands End to John O’Groats record. In recent years Edwin Hargraves took the Saturday club run from Astley VH to a lovely tea place in the middle of Whixhall where we met George’s son. Thanks to all who have sent in information, it is still welcome but I thought I’d try and save too much duplication.
