Officials further to those already mentioned:
Martin and Alison Purser with Hedley Stennett are on timekeeping and observing duty up as far as Carlisle. Here we exchange them for Christine and Philip Minto together with Brenda and George Jackson for the second half. Further along north of Edinburgh we will have the roving services of Mike Johnson and Yvonne Crane. Plenty of cover for the weary crew. Christine is the finish timekeeper.
It was suggested by Bridget Boon who is part of the safe passage through Bristol crew and holder of ladies bike Lands End to Bristol that Jane put in for the trike version – none exist for women on trikes. There is also a figure to be set for a SWCRRA 12hr. Janet Tebutt hopes to be at the terminus. She is a former amateur End to End record holder. Jim Hopper has mustered support from local cyclists to point the way through major towns.
It should be quite something to be part of!
Please be aware that, under RRA rules and regulations, an aspirant can only receive encouragement from the side of the road and any such from overtaking vehicles endanger the aspirant to disqualification.
The helping team, Mark and Alison Brooking, Adrian Hills, Peter Faulks and Martin Badham, met at Jane’s a week or so ago to thrash out the last details that may be required on the road. We had a jolly good meeting before adjourning to a local hostelry for lunch, where even more thoughts popped out while the pressure of thinking was removed.
Most of the team will be assembling in Cornwall next weekend, with those joining en route making their arrangements. Martin Badham will be based at home in Norfolk, receiving updates and enquiries and updating the blog on this website – filed under ACTIVITIES/ RRA RECORD ATTEMPTS/ LANDS END TO JOHN O’GROATS – JANE MOORE.
