Congratulations to Gavin Hinxman on yet another win on the tricycle, and to event secretary Jim Hopper for bagging the handicap award.

Jim reports:

First my thanks to the Burton and District Cycling Alliance for allowing us to have the first few numbers in their Association event. Without their agreement we would be unable to run our event.

Thanks also to the timekeepers, Sue Bowler, South Pennine RC; Tom Bailey, Coalville Whs, and the clerk, Iris Stevens; South Pennine RC.

The result board was manned by Pete Dougherty, South Pennine RC.

The marshalls around the course were members of clubs affiliated to the BDCA, and Edwin and Mark of the TA. All riders said how well the course was controlled.

Thanks also to the helpers in the hall, mainly members and relatives of BDCA clubs who operated the refreshments and did the paperwork part of the race, which is becoming more involved as years go by.

The day was warm and humid with a noticable westerly wind and some sun. Times were good and riders were pleased with their efforts, but as always there was some muttering about how they could have gone better. Gavin missed the competition record by 12 seconds, but surely he will be nearer on another day.

All being well, the event will be held again in 2018, when it is designated to be for the Tricycle Trophy on the four yearly cycle.

I hope to see more tricycle riders for this prestigious event.

Jim Hopper.
